Independence Day is celebrated in Pakistan on 14th August and in India on 15th August…though we are talking about the same independence from British rule.
Indo-Pak Peace Project through Education is a project to
· first understand the meaning and value of independence and
· second, to relate with independence day celebrations in the neighbouring country i.e India or Pakistan .
· Thirdly, it is also a project to ‘learn from conflict’. As India and Pakistan have a lot of conflict areas…lets try to learn from these conflict issues based on Prof. Krishna Kumar’s critically acclaimed book ‘Learning from conflict’.
Some core principles of collaboration are as follows:
- Commitment to the value of learning collaboratively encapsulated in the notion of ‘education without borders’
- Sharing and creating knowledge for greater harmony, healing ,peace building and cooperation
- The engagement will be a medium to long term one which will go beyond the immediate Independence Day. activities in 2010. The program will be sustained through an expanded learning opportunity across borders.
- Exploring an evolving relationship to improve the quality and processes of learning across education systems
- Ensuring that there is no discrimination on the basis of class, gender, ethnicity or religion
